The Guardian Gamers (GGS) were founded in April 2022 by some friends who play too much VALORANT and decided to start competing in amateur tournaments. The team found out about a small tournament being hosted for Iron-Silver players called Low-Elo Lock-In (LLI), and decided to sign up. Despite an abrupt end to the tournament during the round robin, GGS managed to perform very well and decidedly won every match. After LLI, the team sought out more tournaments and competed in the Kaniving Tournaments league and the Ice and Fire amateur division league. These tournaments were no longer restricted to just Iron-Silver players, putting GGS in a more competitive environment. Despite being eliminated fairly early in both leagues, the team set out to get slightly less bad at the game.
The members of the Guardian Gamers began to climb in the ranks. Several members began to hit Gold and a few hit Platinum by the end of the year. Joshbob, the team's interim coach at LLI, even hit Diamond, but we don't talk about that (yes we do it's fun to make fun of him). After a year of climbing in the game's competitive matchmaking system, VALORANT announced a new tournament league in April 2023: Premier. GGS immediately signed up for the Premier Beta season, craving the thrill of competiting once again. The season started off strong, with the Guardian Gamers putting up a 3-3 record in league play. However, the team unfortunately suffered two losses in the playoff bracket, and exited early in the lower quarterfinals.
After a disappointing end to the Premier Beta season, the Guardian Gamers aimed to improve for the next season. The team began a rigorous training schedule, involving scrimmages and strategy labbing. GGS also seeked out new talent to create an academy team to gain experience in coaching as well as host internal scrimmages. In July 2023 VALORANT announced the next season of Premier, called Premier Ignition. GGS had a better showing this time, making it to the semifinals and unfortunately losing in a rematch against SmolWeins.
In September 2023, VALORANT began the official season format of Premier. GGS had another semifinals run, but was still unable to make it to the finals. Unfortunately, due to scheduling issues, GGS was unable to qualify for playoffs in E7A3 despite a dominant 5-1 season. Now, with E8A1 starting off the new year, GGS is back, this time with a new face. GGS welcomes Lepidopterarium to the team, and Joshbob has been promoted to assistant coach.
